Understanding how and why we use cookies

What are cookies?

A cookie is a small text file that is stored on your computer or device when you visit a website. Cookies are used by all websites, and have several different functions. At a basic level cookies will:

  • Allow the site to work properly, and help keep it secure.
  • Help us understand how people use the website.
  • Make the site easier to use by remembering information that you've entered,
  • Improve your experience by showing you information that's relevant to you.

Mad Hattie ("We") are committed to protecting and respecting your privacy.

This policy sets out the basis on which any personal data we collect from you, or that you provide to us, will be processed by us. Please read the following carefully to understand our views and practices regarding your personal data and how we will treat it.


Pay with your credit/debit card or using your Paypal account. You do not need to have or create a Paypal account to pay with your Credit/Debit card. Paypal is a secure payment service and offer quick and easy ways to pay. At no point do I ever have access to your card details - Paypal process your payment and only send your funds.

International customers to pay with Paypal only, please.


Please remember if you are buying used, vintage and antique items, minor signs of use are to be expected. I will always list any faults or issues with the item, so that you can make an informed choice as to whether or not you would be happy to buy the item with that fault or issue. I am not interested in misleading anyone, nor hiding faults and disappointing people.

I do not make money from P&P and I am happy to combine postage to save you money. The system will automatically give a P&P discount when purchasing multiple items.  If you consider the P&P charge which comes up automatically to be excessive, please get in touch so that I can check it out, as mistakes do happen from time to time!

Will normally post within two working days of receiving cleared payment and it will take up to 5 days to be delivered. If you would like your item faster, please let me know, as always happy to adjust postage as required.

It is also advised that you provide an address for delivery where you or someone on your behalf will be available to sign for your parcel, as deliveries take place during business hours and may require a signature upon receipt. If there is no answer at the address when your parcel arrives, you will be left a calling card with instructions on how to collect your order or rearrange delivery.

Please keep in mind that we cannot guarantee delivery times as they are only guidelines. Hence we are unable to refund delivery costs in the event that the delivery date does not meet the provided estimates. Unfortunately, deliveries cannot be made on a Sunday or on a Bank Holiday.

For customers who require delivery outside of the UK, please allow up to 10 working days. Any customs or import duties are charged once the parcel reaches its destination country. These charges must be paid by the recipient of the order. Unfortunately, we have no control over these charges and cannot estimate what the cost will be as customs policies and import duties vary greatly between countries. We suggest that you contact your local customs office for current charges before you order to avoid any unexpected charges.

Large letter up to 750g: £1.83-£3.11
Small parcel: £3.90-£4.90

I hope you will LOVE your purchase from Mad Hattie, but I understand that sometimes there might be something that isn't quite right.

Returns are only refunded if I have seriously mis-decribed the item, and within 7 days of receipt. In the interest of hygiene, hosiery, swimwear, underwear and pierced jewellery cannot be returned.

Unfortunately, I cannot refund the cost of postage (this includes the original delivery cost and return postage). If you wish to request reimbursement for postage due to an incorrectly advertised, damaged or faulty item just get in touch with me and I will reimburse your postage costs. Please be aware that the maximum amount I can refund you is the standard Royal Mail recorded delivery cost. I also cannot refund the excess cost of parcels returned via courier or next day delivery.

Please note the following points before returning your purchase:

  • Please contact me before returning anything, in order to receive a valid returns number. If you send your order back without a valid returns number your return will not be processed.
  • You must return your item(s) within 7 days, with the Mad Hattie returns number clearly displayed on the outer package. If the returns number is not clearly marked on the outer package I will be unable to accept your return.
  • Returns for items that do not fit or do not suit will be issued with a credit note that can be used to buy other items on the Mad Hattie website and is valid for 6 months.

Mad Hattie reserves the right to refuse refunds on any items I believe to have obviously been worn or damaged since despatch, or items which are returned outside of the 7 day return period. Please ensure that you don't remove any tags, as this will invalidate the return. You are responsible for the package until I receive it, so I recommend that you use a courier or signed-for postal service. Please ensure your goods are packed securely and cannot get damaged on the way. Once I receive your returns parcel, I will process your refund to the card from which the original payment was made and at the price you purchased your item/s at (this includes sales items), or issue your credit note.

  • I'm not a hat person and I didn't think I'd even find a fascinator I'd suit. I was so lucky to meet Mad Hattie at Serendipity as she helped me to find a style which looks good and can be made to match all the colours of the outfit I have for my grandaughter's wedding.
